Test Scores
Still Matter
Especially at selective colleges and especially for homeschoolers!
More than 1,450 colleges and universities are now test-optional.
But if you want an edge in the admissions game, you still need to submit standardized test scores.
"Admissions officers said, those who submitted files without [test] scores were often less competitive across multiple measures." — WSJ
They also rely more heavily on test scores from homeschoolers to verify the accuracy of self-reported transcript grades.
Here are two exceptions:
📖 If applying to private liberal arts colleges that truly prefer other metrics
🎯 If the student's scores are not in or above the college's 50% target range
Colleges will assume your student's scores are below 📉 their target range if not submitted with the application.
